Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 5, 2026  ·  Applies to: WaterBeep (Chrome extension)
Short version: WaterBeep does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of your data. Everything the extension needs — your reminder settings, your chosen buddy, your daily count — is saved locally in your own browser and never leaves your device.

This policy covers WaterBeep, a Chrome extension built and maintained by Siba, operating as SibasLab, based in Bengaluru, India. It explains what information the extension handles, why, and how it's stored.

What WaterBeep does

WaterBeep shows a small animated on-screen reminder at intervals you choose, encouraging you to drink water. You can pick a companion character, set active hours, set a daily glass goal, and respond to each reminder (drink it, snooze, or dismiss).

What data is collected

None. WaterBeep does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on any server. There is no account system, no sign-in, and no backend WaterBeep talks to. Nothing about your browsing, your identity, or your activity is sent anywhere.

What is stored locally, and why

The extension uses Chrome's built-in local storage (chrome.storage.local) to remember your preferences on your own device, between browser sessions. This data stays on your machine and is never transmitted:

Stored locallyPurpose
Selected reminder buddy (droplet, axolotl, whale, cactus)Remembers your chosen character between sessions
Reminder interval and active hoursDetermines when reminders are shown
Daily glass count and goalPowers the daily progress ring
Chime on/off preferenceRemembers your sound setting
Permissions this extension uses

Chrome requires extensions to declare permissions upfront. Here's what WaterBeep asks for and why:

storage

Saves your reminder settings and progress locally in the browser, so they persist between sessions. Never transmitted anywhere.

alarms

Schedules water reminders at the interval and active hours you set, using Chrome's alarm system so reminders keep firing reliably in the background.

notifications

Shows a system-level reminder when the in-page buddy can't be displayed — for example, on restricted browser pages where extension UI can't be injected.

tabs

Identifies the currently active tab so the reminder can appear where you're actually looking, and checks the tab's URL only to skip restricted pages (like chrome:// pages). No browsing history or page content is read or stored.

scripting

Injects the reminder buddy's UI into the active tab at the moment a reminder is due, rather than running continuously on every page.

Host permission (all sites)

Needed so the reminder can appear no matter which site you're currently on when a reminder triggers. The extension only adds its own overlay UI — it does not read, collect, or modify the content of any page you visit.

Limited Use disclosure

WaterBeep's use of any data handled through Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:

Third parties

WaterBeep does not integrate with, or share data with, any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking service. There are no ads in the extension.

Changes to this policy

If WaterBeep's data practices ever change — for example, if a future sync feature is added — this page will be updated first, with a new effective date, before that change ships.
